                                                                               Broadband and Cellular Service News

We have two individuals who may help bring a new internet service to the Valley, Mark Ray, a Town of Alma Councilman who is working with ForeThought to bring a microwave link from Leadville to Alma.  If this happens, we (us Valley people) would have to bring it from Alma to the Valley.  I have recently been contacted by a new property owner that is thinking of bringing over a link from Summit County.  Stay tuned. 
                                                                                             Capital Expenditures

Capital Expenditures are expenditures that are not allocated in the Budget that is approved at the Annual Meeting in August.  As approved by the Members-at-Large Meeting in August, Capital Expenditures are only authorized when approved by the Members-at-Large via email vote.  By agreement, a No-Reply to a non-budgeted proposal is a "Yes" vote for the expenditure.  The PVPOA has a little over $20K in its bank accounts.  For the last several years we have been "breaking even"; income (primarily from Association Dues) has been very close to expenditures.  That being the case, we want to be very careful about how we spend that money; it is not growing each year.  If this was a personal situation, you would most likely not want to spend any of it, but save it for a rainy day.  However, the Association really has little need to save for that purpose, other to have some moneys on hand for those years when receipts from dues do not meet expectations.  In that event, however the Board would try to match the downturn with a decrease in expenditures for the Annual Meeting and Picnic, the Winter Social and for the Annual Clean Up Day. 

We have for several years discussed spending money on such things as pavilions and historical markers in the State Wildlife Area.  Then the proposed Bike Trail was announced and it was decided to postpone any expenditures until the plans for the Bike Trail were finalized.  Unfortunately, the great flood of 2013 diverted state funds for this project away to rebuild critical roadways along the Front Range. No one knows for sure when those funds might become available again. Perhaps it is time to re-consider our own plans. 

New: Park County recently sent someone out to look at the land on Ute and CR 6, the location of our proposed snow fence.  They met with one of the residents on Ute (Sandy) and to our surprise, they promised to put up the fence at County expense!  Way to go Sandy!

New: Signage: The Board was instructed to replace the existing signs at the Placer Valley entrances by the Members at Large at the Annual Meeting.  The Board met on November the 7th and this topic was on the Agenda (see Meeting Minutes).  As it turns out, the Town of Alma paid $8,000 a piece for the signs coming into town.  Even a much simpler sign would be too far out of our price range.  Each of the Board members is tasked with researching alternative means, including designing and building the new signs on our own.  (We have so much talent available in the Valley!)  When we re-convene in January, we will put a plan in motion.  It is now too late to put these signs up due to frost conditions; we will take our time and plan wisely.  It is our intention to have these signs up as soon as the Spring thaw allows, assuming Member at Large approval of the plan.  Another suggestion strongly advocated by Stephen is playground equipment next to the pond.  We will continue to explore this possibility with CDOW.

Town of Alma: Everyone needs a town!  This is ours.  Check it out; the PVPOA is closely associated with the Town of Alma.
Park County Commissioner: If you live in the Valley, your current Commissioner is Mark Dowaliby "Mark for Park"
The Alma Foundation:  Check it out; the PVPOA is heavily involved in this organization.
The Mosquito Range Heritage Initiative (MRHI):  You chose to live in this mountain range; get involved with MRHI to maintain its beauty and to preserve its heritage!
